UDP Leader says UDP government will revitalize Banjul

Ousainu Darboe leader of United Democratic Party has said UDP government will revitalise Banjul as he described city as one of the most underdeveloped in the whole world.

“Banjul is death. It is the only city in the whole world without a Cinema or even a Super Market. But a UDP government will revitalise the city,” he told a massive UDP crowd in Banjul on Saturday.

The seasoned politician said the revitalization of the capital should not be left in the hand of the council.

“The central government should participate in that but unfortunately the past and current governments have not worked towards that. Even the city centre is like a ghost place,” he said.

Supporters of the UDP turned out in their large numbers in a show of strength and dominance. The capital which was rumored to be President Adama Barrow’s political stronghold was turned yellow on Saturday in an emphatic fashion.

The UDP leader said the people who turn out at the Saturday’s rally are real Banjulians and not the other way around.

“It is only Banjulians who can do something like this…No other pollical party can pull such crowds and I am sure UDP will sweep the polls in Banjul in 2021 presidential election,” he said.

Momodou Lamin Sidat Jobe, former foreign affairs minister who joined the UDP recently, said the Banjul meeting signals UDP’s victory in 2021.

“The UDP is the solution to Gambia’s problem. This is the only party that can restore Gambia’s international confidence and uphold the rule of law,” he added.

He also urged supporters of the party to secure voters’ cards ahead of 2021.

The Mayoress of Banjul, Rohey Malich Lowe used her address to give a rundown of the numerous projects currently been implemented by her council.

“The Council is paying school fees for over hundreds of students. This year alone we sent 36 young people abroad for skills training and we have some Oustas who are set to travelled to Turkey to further their studies,” she said.

She also revealed that the council have also secured road projects, adding, “Mayoress Lowe said the Banjul City council is the only Council that doesn’t have a singled debt, despite the fact that she inherited millions of debts”.

She said the Council had given D1M to the youths of Banjul to prepare for the NAYCONF.

“We have also informed government of our interest to take over Jammeh’s compounds they are planning to sell in Banjul and rent them back to the people of Banjul in a cheaper rate,” she added.

She said the Council has a good relationship with Central Government. Whiles, thanking President Barrow for coming up with the Banjul Road project, calling on the Gambian leader to ensure that tax payers’ monies are used judiciously.

However, every mentioned of President Barrow’s name by the Mayoress was greeted with dissatisfaction by some section of the crowds who waved their hands in show of disagreement.
