Mama Africa Band to Revive Traditional Music

Jali Musa Jobarteh, lead vocalist of Mama Africa Band has reveled that the band is set to revive culture through traditional music across the country.

He told The Voice Vibes that: “We have lots of students in our compound learning traditional music and African style of griot, because we want to keep legacy of culture in the future

Waagan Fye, co-founded, the Open Mic Festival told Music In Africa that traditional music is not getting the attention of the younger generation.

He explained that the new schools have been infusing it into their sound for a local touch but the bridge between the traditional and the urban has not been fully erected.

But Jobarteh insisted that he is determine to revive traditional music in The Gambia, as he has plan to train and mentor young talents on traditional music genre.

“I am ready in 2019 to tour the country to sensitize young people about the importance of traditional music and the need to cherish it,” he said.

On his debeut album entitled “Tamalalu” (Travellers) said is dedicated to all the travelers taking care of responsibility back home, adding many households in The Gambia is help by those in Disapora.

He explained the eight tracks in the alabum includes ‘Forro’, ‘Jalia’, ‘Tamalalu’, ‘Mbama- Sarjo’, ‘We Barrow’, ‘Badia’, ‘Foday’, and ‘Mama Africa’.

According to him, album was a success as the first duplicate copies were finish during the launching.

“We have to duplicate more to enables all fans get a copy from both home and abroad, we are assuring all fans to keep supporting us we have plans to shoots some videos for the album and continue to gave them good entertainment and education through the music,” he said.

He noted that the album is all over the world people are listening to it.

He urged Gambia private companies, government to put local artists in their major events as they have the same skills like others they are inviting from outside.

Jobarteh explained that the band was formed in 2012 with the solely aimed of spreading positivity in the society through music and has been performing show all over the Gambia and beyond.
He commended people who are supporting them during the past years in delivering good music to the doorstep of the populace.
