Dr Janneh Charged With Criminal Trespass
A Gambian rights activist, Dr Amadou Scattred Janneh, was yesterday 3rd October 2018, charged with two counts of criminal trespass at the Brikama Magistrate Court before Principal Magistrate Omar Cham.
Dr Janneh’s arrested, detention and charged followed his return from the United States where he was residing after been charged in absentia in connection with allegations of removing waste pipe from the sea, the property belonging to a Chinese company Golden Lead. The alleged pipe removal is said have happened on June 5th 2018, in Gunjur Village, Kombo South in the West Coast Region of The Gambia.
He denied the charges against pressed him by the police, hence he granted bail in sum of D500, 000 and two Gambian sureties. .He was represented by Lamin J Darboe and Inspector General of Police was represented by prosecutor Sergeant Bobo Jarju.
The statement of offence in count one revealed that, Dr Janneh with intent to intimidate or cause annoyance, unlawfully entered into the premises of Golden Lead and thereby committing an offence.
Count two indicated the offence of willful, unlawful damage of property through discharged of the said pipe valued at $50, 000. Case continues on 17th October, 2018.
