As part of to complement government efforts in the health delivery system, Friends of The Gambia Association (FOTGA) through Mr. Gray Evan, in the United Kingdom recently donated medical items to Sheikh Zayed Eye Care Center at a ceremony held at SZREC ground worth over D400,000.
The medical items included slits lamps, bulbs, and frames. Speaking during the handing over of the items, Modou Camara, officer in-charge of Friends of The Gambia, said FOTGA has been very supportive to Sheikh Zayed Eye Care Center and the National Eye Health Center.
He explained that they have been sponsoring a series of Cataract operations and most recently around the month of July this year.
In receiving the items on behalf of Sheikh Zayed Eye Care Center and on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Sarjo Kanyi Programme Manager, National Eye Health Programme, Ministry of Health and Social Welfare said this donation of five slits lamps, bulbs and frames estatimated to worth around D400, 000 from Friends of The Gambia Association.
“Our relationship with the friends of The Gambia Association dated back from 2014 through one of our colleague Mr Alhagie Camara who is a cataract surgery based in the United Kingdom through his initiative he was able to link us with the Friends of The Gambia Association,” he said.
He noted that from 2014, they have been sponsoring eye care center, providing free surgery for needy poor Gambians.
Alasan Tourary, of Sheikh Zayed Eye Center said today we gathered here to receive some gifts from FOTGA, adding that they has been constantly providing us with at medical items until this year 2018, they started giving us bulbs and frames for the center.
