As the Barrow led government rolled out the new ID Card for Gambians to acquire at a cost of D450 issued by Semlex Company Ltd, more Gambians are calling for people not acquire it and let the government be aware of the plight of an average Gambian struggling to survive
The latest such calls came from one Omar Beyai, who identified himself as a politician currently based in the Republic of Benin. He said that Gambians should boycott the D450 charges for national identity card, described it as unacceptable and Let Barrow know that people are just from struggling paying school fees for their children and love ones at various levels of education.
The Benin based Gambian politician made this comment in a recent telephone interview with The Voice Newspaper and urged government to consider the cost of ID Card, saying Gambians are thinking of feeding their families and other means of sustenance, than paying D450 for an ID card.
The politician tasked the Barrow led government to clarify allegations of crop failure in announced in the country as the issue is very alarming, which could cause public fear. He condemned the government for spending millions of dalasi on per diem, which has no dividend for people of the country as it is paid at the expense of tax payers, saying this is not the change that The Gambian people voted for.
He described the recent travel ban impose on government officials as long overdue and that his would be political party called All People’s Progressive Party, has the potentials of addressing plight of Gambians
“The APP led government will be the only government that can better lead this country. I will cut down travel expenses, reduce per diem and salaries of top senior civil servants, cabinet ministers and presidency,” he said.
For Mr Beyai the commission of inquiry would to stay in the country and that this Barrow government will one day be accounted for all the monies they are spending’.
