The executive members of Salikene village development committee were trained on leadership qualities, responsibilities, good governance, and transparency and mobilization resource.
Speaking at the training ceremony, Hon. Sulayman Saho, member for Upper Baddibou commended the people of Salikene for their steadfastness and commitment to all inclusive development and unity among the people.
“VDC are an important decentralizes structure aim at providing development to the people, through promoting social accountability and unity among the people,” he said.
Sana Kanteh chairperson said the VDC is true representation of the village and assured of their commitment to operate within the framework of the by-laws adopted at the village general assembly to foster unity.
He reiterated of proper management of public resources, networking with community structures, citing women and youths groups and by extension council of elders and religious bodies for the best interest of the peoples.
He also commended the lawmaker for the foresight in providing training members to enable them knows their roles and functions.
Alpha Khan, Vice chairman of Kerewan Area Council hailed the community for their steadfastness in promoting regular consultation with the council to bring about peaceful handing over of leadership from the outgoing VDC to the present one.
He disclosed that council will continue to encourage VDC to register with Kerewan Area Council and assured of council fullest support to the new executive.
He urged the committee to attached great important to regular meetings and consultation to bring about transparency and accountability.
Alagie Gaye Community Development Assistant CDA has underscored the important of capacity development VDC, noting that it will enhance their performance and productivity.
He reminds VDC to be vigilant in carrying out community diagnoses on the priority development needs.
Junking Dibba alkalo of Salikene said the selection of new committee came as a result thorough consultation and approval with all the nine (9) kabilo heads.
He noted that the overstayed of outgoing VDC for more than two decade resulted to so many misunderstanding between. Alkalo Dibba reiterated that the introduction of term limit for VDC would obviously enable them to be more accountable to the people.
