The Development Oriented Citizens of Banjul (DOC BJL), in partnership with various youth organisations in Banjul held and organised ‘no tribalism procession’ held under the theme: “NO TRIBALISM”.
Speaking at the event, Imam Ebrima Faye, the imam of the Independence Drive Mosque described the event as good.
“Tribalism is the cancer of our societies and if we don’t remove the tumor at the earliest stage, it will destroy all our cells, it most be banned from our dictionary and Allah said that every individual will be accountable for his or her actions before him on the Day of Judgment,” he said.
According to him, the Gambia is at the crossroad of her history and it’s glorifying, adding that history of the future generations lies on the shoulders of citizens.
M r Abdoulie Njie, chairperson for the DOC Banjul also denounced tribalism, adding it is detrimental to wellbeing of a nation.
r Njie further called on Gambians to denounced, as he called for wiping out tribalism in the country.
He pleaded to Gambians to be ambassador’s advocates to oust tribalism in the country and uphold national unity.
He said: “We must put behind all negative indifferences and focus on healing our wonderful nation by putting core principles at the forefront. We have to put our values into positive use and our progressive actions to rekindle the spirit of one Gambian.”
