Louis Gomez, the former deputy director general of defunct National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has died at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital yesterday, his family confirmed to The Voice. He is standing trial at High Court in Banjul with eight other former NIA officers accused of killing the late Ebrima Solo Sandeng. He has earlier denied any wrong doing. He has been in prison for over a year.
Gomez is a former teacher. He later enlisted into the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) now State Intelligence Service, SIS. He rose to different positions at the Agency, before he was appointed Deputy Director by the exiled Gambian former President Yahya Jammeh.
According to the family the circumstances surrounding Gomez’s death is unknown. He was held under solidarity confinement during his long stint in mile two custody.
All efforts by The Voice to get the Gambia Prison Service Public Relation Officer remain futile.
