The National Youth Agribusiness and Tourism Expo Trade fair has commenced at the Independent Stadium in Bakau.
The event is organised by Gambia Youth Chamber of Commerce through the funding of Youth Empowerment Project.
Hadrammeh Sidibeh, Minister of youth and sports said: “The Gambia youth policy2009 to 2018 and African Youth Charter defined youth as age burrack of 15 to 35, youth are defined by this policy.”
He added: “Thus, youth requires social, economic and political support to realize their potential and live a dignify life.”
He said Barrow-led government entrust that entrepreneurship is a sustainable mean of creating youth employment in the country.
He further assured his ministry commitment to supporting GYCC and youth activities s to attain sustainable development goal.
Ismailah Sambou, board president at GYCC said youth entrepreneurship play a vital role in creating youth employment and employability.
He added that it also promotes social and economic growth, saying GYCC initiatives will improve youth employment rate in the country.
Raimund Moser, manager for YEP said agribusiness and tourism are important opportunities for youth empowerment saying young entrepreneurs can capitalize the opportunity to sell their agricultural products to the tourists as the rainy season is just ending.
He appealed the young entrepreneurs especially thoes from rural area to use the opportunity to boost their business.
“You are all ambassadors and gent of change and is not easy to bring your business in the urban area; thus, we are calling on you go back with the experience to your destination,” he urged.
