The Public Enterprise Committee has endorsed the financial report of Gambia Printing and Publishing Cooperation for the year 2015-2016.
The Gambia Printing and Publishing Cooperation reports has indicated highlights of revenue generated by the cooperation from 2014-2016 respectively.
In the report it indicated that in 2014 GPPC has generated D 40,152,901, D39, 846,854 in 2015, and D 27,717, 699 in 2016.
According to the reports, the cooperation also received a total job of ‘’670 between 2014-2016, in which 244 were received from the government jobs and 444 from private enterprises and institutions.
But to Momodou Ceesay, the managing director of GPPC, the revenue reduction of GPPC in 2016 was mainly due to the political activity and impasse.
He also said most of the government institutions and departments do not follow the rules of the printing policy of GPPC, and that most of the institutions and departments owe GPPC debt.
Hon. Halifa Sallah, chair of the committee cited section 3 of the public enterprise act, saying the section categorically states the principal objective of public enterprise shall be to operate as a successful business and to this end and to be as profitable and efficient as possible.
“Section 175[4] of the 1997 Constitution provides for the establishment of this committee to monitor the operation of your enterprise, and to ensure that there is efficiency, transparency and probity in the performance of your function,” he said.
Sallah, who double as member for Serrekunda further said section 4 of GPPC act states that the cooperation the objectives to print and publish on a commercial basis on a document for or on behalf of the government public enterprises and private cooperation or any other person.
