Jatta Blames Gov’t over ‘neglecting crimes’

Fabakary Tombong Jatta, leader of the opposition APRC has blamed the Barrow administration over ‘neglecting crimes in the country’.

Mr. Jatta made the allegation during a press conference held at his residence in Talinding yesterday.

“Over the period our convoy was attacked at Busumbala and we understand that government had set-up a commission to investigate the cause of the violence, but we did no hear anything regarding that case,” he said.

He said in order to stop crimes in the country; the government should put mechanism that would deter occurrence of crimes in the country.

He cited the Busumbala incident in which APRC and native of Busumbala clashed few months ago.

He said the police could have done better in avoiding that clash, but he added that the government showed no care then in avoiding the problem.

He added:  “During our last rally we received a message that there were secret meeting made planning to attack our militant but so luckily we contacted the police and they [police] said they were aware of the plan.”

We have the right to go to anywhere in the country to conduct political meetings when we have permit. This is a security risk and we all know that,” he said.

He said ECOMIG personnel believe to be Senegalese military had recently arrested and tortured a young Gambian Sibanor for transporting logs in the interior of the country.

He continued: “What had happens is not our… is the responsibility of the police to find out. However, as a party we seriously condemn this behavior of Senegal ECOMIG soldiers in the country, they have no right to torture any person in the country, even if the person commit crime we have due process.”

He further urged the government to launch investigations into the allege crimes committed since they assume power and bring the perpetrators to justice.
