Scorpion’s winger Mustapha Carayol has been ruled out of action for up to six weeks with a hip injury.
The 30-year-old missed Gambia’s 1-0 defeat to Togo in the return leg 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on October 16 after suffering a knock in the first leg in Lomé.
He returned to club action with Apollon Limassol featuring in the club’s 2-0 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Europa League and in a 1-1 draw at Doxa Katokopias in league action.
But it now appears that the problem in the hip has aggravated, requiring him to be out of action until mid-December, according to a brief statement on Apollon’s official website.
The news comes as a blow to gaffer Tom Saintfiet who’s still plotting his first win as Scorpions manager when the team returns to Nations Cup qualifier action at home to Benin next weekend.
