The Public Enterprise Committee yesterday asked The Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency to appear before them today after its board of director failed to appear.
Shortly after the arrival of the officials from GiEPA, the committee members called for brief meeting among themselves in which they adjourned Wednesdays sitting to Thursday.
This according to them is the failure of board director appearance before the committee for the effective review of the 2015-2016 annual reports of GiEPA.
Hon. Halifa Sallah, the chair of the Public Enterprise Committee said: “We believe that we should make it very clear that it is the board that must seat before us and must come with the management, with external auditors and with all the other officers which have to discharge their functions.”
He said the matter hasn’t reached to summoning GiEPA to appear with immediacy, but said those would be exercise when it reaches other level of impunity.
He further cited section 175 sub section 2 of the 1997 constitution has stated that states that the members of the board of directors of or other governing body, so that clearly states what the board constitute, is a governing body.
For his part, Assan Jallow, the chief executive officer of GiEPA told the committee that GiEPA’s board of director has gone with Constitutional Review Commission on tour.
He assured the committee of his best to appear with his team before the lawmakers tomorrow as they were urged to do so.
“I will try and do everything possible to come tomorrow. I will my best in seeing I come with my people tomorrow,” Jallow said.
