Over 30 youths across different communities in Kombo south district has under gone a daylong training on active community engagement and volunteerism with the theme “effective community response to large scale development” held at the coastal community of Gunjur over the week.
The training was organized by Their Voice Must be Heard in collaboration with Green Peace The Gambia, aimed at engaging young people on effective community participation, volunteerism and resilience to a self-development.
Emilia Sigwingwa, a Tanzanian human right lawyer and chairperson of Green peace Africa said: |most important economic development sector a country will ever have in meeting the required basic needs of her citizens is the total improvement on the micro economic living standard of its population.”
She said that Africa as a continent with her national leaders will only engage and have more interesting attitude in promoting visible and structural macro-economic development sectors.
She added: “Now any time our head of states sit in a platform or engage in a summit and conferences the only thing they will of is how to improve or construct energy power plants, railway system a and bridges more especially with the advent of the Chinese investors.”
She said national and community leaders should not be leave unaccounted for whenever they fail on the very constitutional and legal mandate given to them to deliver.
Babucarr Camara, a youth volunteer said the involvement of young people in any meaningful community and national development should first begin with having believed in community service volunteerism.
He added that many a time young people especially the youths are betrayed by their own lack of resistance to self-determination and independence this whiles citing so many issues that leads the youths to be unfocused towards their development aspirations.
He said: “Many a time our young people will lack a focus of choosing their future career this is because they are not capable of their the particular but what disturbed them so many times is the self-confidence and resistance on the type of profession they want to take.
Alfisainey Sey said: “We should not be self-discourage on our dream professions as youths that whenever we lack going in for a formal education our livelihoods might be set into a trouble. There are many people today with a lot of millions within their possession without going in for any formal kind of literacy.”
