NCAC Vows Promoting, Protecting Creativity

The National Centre for Arts and Culture over the weakened vowed to promoting and protecting creativity of Gambian artists.

NCAC made the pledge during a press conference held at the national museum in Banjul.

And speaking at the presser, Hassoum Ceesay, the director of cultural heritage said their main objective is to ensure Gambian artist start to ‘earn money from their creation’.

Rohey samba, from the writers association and a board member of CSG clearly said: “the mentorship of the programme by the WIPO, ARIPO is a kind of support to the Gambia collecting society to assist in establishing one on our selves.”

As the first mentorship programme was held in May, she said that was meant to build capacity of the CSG board.

She added: “The mentorship programme has been a useful tool in helping to find licence areas in the context of our own setting here as well as means of distribution she said.”

Mr Rosario Kamanga senior licensing officer COSOMA Malawi, expressed gratitude and privilege about  the request  of the government of the Gambia to placed on ARIPO and WIPO to share experiences in the field of collecting management both musical and  copy right.

Ben Nyadzi, executive director copy right Ghana also shared his experience with the CSG board members to actually set it up on the five days mentorship programme said progress has been made so far for this is our second visit to the Gambia.

According to him more could have been done but at least efforts where made, we have come up with a work plan which we believe if it’s properly implemented should see to the up and running in the next six months.
