Lamin B. Dibba, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources has warned against the use of plastic bags despite an existing legislation banning its commercialization and exercise.
Since the Barrow’s administration came to power, people are repeatedly and blatantly violating the ban of plastic bags.
He further pointed out that it is now a booming activity and many people are venturing into it in what appeared to be a complete defiance of the law.
He was speaking during a press conference jointly organised with the National Environment Agency (NEA), and which was held at his office located along Kairaba Avenue.
When asked whether his ministry is ready to issue an ultimatum against those contravening the law, the environmental minister said that they have not yet reached that level. But he was quick to add that if anybody is found wanting, he or she will face the full force of the law.
He also expressed their readiness to launch massive sensitization campaign in order to develop a growing conscience about the dangers of plastic bags.
Momodou Jama Suwareh, Executive Director of National Environment Agency highlights the huge challenges they are facing to enforce the ban of the plastic bags.
