Scorpions international Kebba Ceesay has left relegated Swedish Allsvenskan side Dalkurd FF to stay in the country’s top-flight with IK Sirius Football.
The veteran defender, who spent two seasons with Dalkurd, quit the Borlänge-based club after being one of two teams who’ve failed to beat the drop from the top-tier.
His performances haven’t gone unnoticed despite the team struggling for form and has led to Sirius to make the swoop for the free agent player.
“Kebba is a fast and physical defensive player, with a lot of experience both from Sweden and abroad. He has a great passion and great courage in his game which I think will contribute a lot to us. Just the speed is great when you want to play an aggressive football,” Sirius coach Kim Bergstrand said on the club’s new acquisition.
The 31-year-old, who has signed a three-year contract with Sirius, confirmed he received interest from elsewhere but wanted to be closer to home that’s why he opted for a move to the 2016 Superettan champions.
“I have had several other options but I really enjoy staying in Uppsala and would love to stay here, and when I talked to Kim, I got a good picture of him and the club and the way they work here,” he revealed.
He added: “Sirius has impressed me in the fall with the way you turned this season. I will help speed up there but I do not want to talk so much about myself. This is a team sport, it will be great fun to come to Sirius and I look forward to getting started and meeting the team in January.”
Ceesay, a former Sweden U21 international and capped 11 times for The Gambia, started his career in 2005 featuring for IK Brage, Djurgårdens IF, Vasalunds IF and Lech Poznań. gambiasports.com
