A human rights journalist has launched a human rights organization dubbed Centre for Human Rights and Development [CHRD].
Yahya Dampha, who base in Sweden said the organization was established in 2008 in Sweden with the aim of educating the Gambian people on human rights laws, rights and duties of citizens such as political right and social rights.
Mr. Dampa who also doubles as the executive director for the organization was speaking to The Voice in an exclusive interview recently.
“The organization focuses on developmental works because human rights include rights to foods, healthcare, education among others. Therefore, we will work collaboratively with the health institutions to help in boosting the healthcare sector,” he said.
He assured the commitment of his organization to bringing agricultural projects like, gardening and food security in the country.
He also said his organization will endeavor to empower Gambians youth and women especially women in the rural Gambia.
“We had our proposal in tact to commence work soon but we have start work yet; thus, we cannot confirm our financial challenges at the moment; However, we partnered with one Nigerian organization that wants to extend its projects in The Gambia through CHRD,’’ he added.
Meanwhile, he outlined a number of human rights organization his organization is collaborating with as they include, Human Rights Watch HRW, Amnesty International and Committee for Protection of Journalists CPJ.
