GDC Leader Frowns at Barrow Youth Movement

Mama Kandeh, leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) has said the formation of President Barrow Youth Movement for National Development “has no space in the new political and democratic dispensation of the country.”

He asked President Adama Barrow to tell Gambians the reason behind him forming the Barrow youth movement that is taking charge of National Development Projects.

Mr. Kandeh was speaking over the weekend in a mass political rally attended by hundreds of his party enthusiasts at Mamuda village in Kombo South District West Coast Region.

“Establishment of such movements in the country by the president will only allow and give possible political environment to absolute powers as the head of state,” he said.

According to him, since the coalition government came into power no tangible project has been so far registered in the country saying the only works on national projects that are yet to begin are to undertaken by the president Barrow Youths movement, “leaving the coalition government with no ideas of any socio-national developmental projects to Gambian citizens,” he added.

“Now what I will like President Barrow to tell us as citizens of this country is to make clear to us the difference between the Barrow youth movement from the Gambia Government. Or it is that the Barrow youth movement is the government of the Gambia with projects or we still having our Government as a nation”. He said

He noted that any time development projects are heard of or expected to be commence in the country it is only the Barrow Youth Movement that is likely to carry out such particular projects.

Kandeh cited the drilling of water boreholes for communities in the rural country which he said were promised to be built by the movement since in the past six months of their existence adding no single borehole have so far been constructed by the movement.

He claimed that President Barrow and his coalition government are not looking for the interest and welfare of the Gambians but only concentrating on how to strengthen their positions and individual political parties as for the coming next elections.

GDC leader pointed out that the agreed terms among the coalition political parties that ousted the former government will be violated if the president fails to adhere to the three year deal.

“There is no concrete sign that the coalition government of President Barrow is concentrating more on the welfare and socio economic development of the country this is because every individual within the coalition are only paying attention of strengthening their party agenda for the next elections.”
