4H Norge Applauded for Promoting Good Governance, Sustainability

4H of Norway has been commended for promoting good governance and sustainability as the organization is in the country for a weeklong follow up project visit.

The organization was given a salute by its counterpart 4H Gambia and the two are reviewing progress on the level of project implementation of Development cooperation fund by Forest Association of 4H Norge for a period 2008 to 2018.

Alieu Ceesay, Program Director 4H the Gambia underscored the significant achievement of cooperation between his agency and parent body in Norway.

He said the meeting with board and staffs is crucial as it provide a platform sound to holistically review the development project agreement from 2008 to 2018.

He commended the efforts of Ousman Sonko a board member for supporting the agency capacity enhancement of staff on implementation of development projects and social mobilization to promote participation and ownership of project for youth club members.

“During the period under review, the agency has implemented series of project funded locally citing UNDP Small Grant Fund (Global Environment Facility) project dubbed Promoting Bee Farming through Agro forestry intervention practices,” he said.

The challenges were evident that inadequate human resources, mobility and ownership of orchard by youth clubs need urgent attention, he said.

The visiting team disclosed that a group of study team from Norway is expected in the Gambia on the 28th December for a period of two weeks.

The team will be staying with host families in the villages in North Bank and Central River regions, as it will help them to learn culture and social norms, see how 4H Gambia is changing the life of rural youths,

Also the team will visit Songhai centre at Chamen Agricultural Training Centre and finally the visiting team and host 4H Gambia will organise workshop to exchange ideas on how to improve lives of peoples at community levels.

4H Gambia is imparting on the lives of youths, as a board member Kumba Njie of Daru Foday graduate from the recent badge Songhai fifth badge. Two youths from clubs are undergoing intensive training on tailoring and electrical installation at National Youth Service Scheme.
