Headmistress of Nyodema Nursery School in Manjai Kunda has revealed that 550 students are currently under Belgian Friends of The Gambia (BFoTG) sponsorship packages in this 2017-2018 academic year within educational institutions in Kanifing Municipality (KM).
Mrs. Mariama Secka-Darboe made this revelation recently during the presentation of educational items to BFoTG student’s sponsors at Nyodema Nursery School.
Mrs. Darboe said these sponsors’ ranges from Nursery school to tertiary institutions while used the chance to inform the gathering that her institution was establish in 1987.
“Belgian Friends sponsorship started here at Nyodema by the time I met the chairman, BFoTGm Patrick de Vos and his wife Christa de Vos in 2002 and that was the year also they brought in their first sponsor child at Nyodema Nursery School,” headmistress Secka- Darboe informed the gathering.
Since 2002 to date she went on, the couple do visited the school annually to offer something to their sponsor students adding that her school also benefited a lot of educational items from the Belgian friend’s kinds gesture.
She said they facelift his institution with two classroom blocks, one office and toilet adding that they also built their organization head office within her school premises.
She described Belgian friends’ kind gesture as something that is complementing the efforts of The Gambia Government in the areas of education and health.
“They raise both the academic and social status of their sponsors students at Nyodema Nursery School into higher heights which the administration of the school are proud of,” headmistress Secka-Darboe stated.
Afterwards, Nyodema Nursery School headmistress said Belgian Friends of The Gambia extended their benevolent sponsors to other schools within Kanifing Municipality (KM) and West Coast Region (WCR) respectively.
According to Mrs. Secka-Darboe, they BFoTG are also sponsoring some students at Girl’s Guide training Centre, SOS training Centre, and Little Tree training Centre all in KM area.
The occasion was witnessed by the NAM for the area, Hon. Madi Ceesay, Cluster monitor for the area, Councilor Manjai Kotu/Ward and Councilor elders of Manjai Kunda.
