John Charles Njie, chairman of Association of Non-Governmental Organization (TANGO) has said that the people who were criticizing the decisions and acts of the former government are now defending and justifying the same decisions made by the current regime.
“It is more heartbreaking that some of the people who were criticizing the decisions and actions of the former government are now defending and justifying the same acts,” Njie made it known while addressing a gathering that were observing December 1, as national democracy day at the faculty of law on Saturday.
He then added that: “Our politicians have lift-up to the reputation of being people of untruth and defending the indefensible and threatening to undermine the bread foundation that put them into power.”
The Civil Society Organizations were expecting that, the interest of the people would be defended, but now the country has jumped into barren wagons of corrupt politicians to deprive the CSO from their rights to dignify life, he emphasised.
Tango chair also blamed the Barrow-led government of involving into practices that wonders the citizens of whether they really understand the conditions that the country encountered in the past or not.
Mr. Njie added that the government is scrambling the limited resources of the state for unlimited travels, toting up that “Gambia youths are losing their lives at the Mediterranean Sea for greener pasture to Europe.”
He said that the current government is nerve-racking whether it will face commission of enquiry after their regime or not.
“We are telling you [President Barrow] that you are right now before a commission of enquiry with the Gambian people, as a rightful commission,” he said.
However, he commended government for allowing freedom of expression of the critical views, stating that the government may not be comfortable with such views, notwithstanding they must realized that leadership in a democratic society must be in a such manner.
