The Gambia is the biggest mover by points in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola world rankings released by the world football governing body for the month of November.
The country, which occupied position 173 in the October rankings, moved seven places up to lie 166 in the world and 48 in Africa on the latest rankings.
The Gambia, previously with 967 points on the rankings, now has 986 points.
The latest soaring on the rankings can be attributed to the Scorpions’ 3-1 home win over Benin in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers last month.
“Second biggest movers in the world on the FIFA rankings, first victory in five years for The Gambia, biggest win in 8 years time and only the second time in history that Gambia still has a chance to qualify for the AFCON,” Scorpions gaffer Tom Saintfiet reacted on the rankings via a social media post.
Belgium meanwhile remain top of the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, although the gap between the Red Devils, France (2nd, unchanged) and Brazil (3rd, unchanged) has narrowed over the past month.
The big climbers included the African quintet of Mozambique (117th, up 5), Angola (125th, up 5), Sudan (127th, up 8), Comoros (143rd, up 5) and Gambia (166th, up 7).
The rise of Kosovo (131st, up 6) was also notable as it took them to their highest position Ranking position to date.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 20 December 2018.
