The Gambian President Adama Barrow has said that the year 2019 will be a turning point for Gambia’s developmental aspirations and political landscape.
President Barrow made this disclosure in Basse, Upper River Region, where he is currently laying the foundation stones for roads, bridges and a teachers training college, the courtesy of Chinese grant for Infrastructural Development amounting to eighty- one million dollars.
“I want to assure you that we ( the government) will continue to attract more meaningful projects to your doorsteps but also want you to know that 2019 will be the turning point of The Gambia,” Barrow stated as he tighten his grip on the political driver’s seat of the country.
He said in 2019, his government will inaugurate a bridge at Farafenni where both he and President Macky Sall of Senegal will be in attendance, while calling on Gambians to grace the event which is to be hosted in Farafenni.
President Barrow said that his government is also prepared to launching series of projects in 2019 that are all designed to improving the lots of The Gambians people especially the rural population.
“The Journalists present here today, I want you to make sure your cameras are well set. I want Gambian people to see this event even those who cannot attend the occasion so that they can see the proceedings. China who are our partners would also witness it all, so make sure (the journalists) you have to widens your camera lens so that it can become an issue that others can gossip about but can’t dispute the fact,” Barrow stated this at Basse
He promised to blow apart any political contender or rival on his path to consolidating power through the 2021 election.
President Barrow said the Gambian people are no more fouls and he is optimistic that they are observing the political landscape of the country, adding that it is only The Gambian people who can elect a president and they are the only one who can remove the president from power.
“I want to assure The Gambian people that the job they gave me is the only thing that I am focusing on right now, until the end of my mandate. So I am calling on each Gambian to come forth to help us build this country,” said President Barrow as he promised of more landmark developments for the Gambia in 2019.
Speaking in Mandinka parables President Barrow said that one of his elderly usually tells him that if people are arguing who is beautiful than the other, the best answer one could give them is to tell them to wait until in the morning when the sky becomes clear.
“My fellow Gambians I want to tell you that what you are seeing is just the tip of the Iceberg,” Barrow bluffs of his popular support in his birth place of URR and the Chinese grant project been rolled out to rural Gambians.
He expressed his joy over the tumultuous welcome accorded him in URR, stressing that such a welcome has never been accorded to any Gambian president not even Jawara nor Yahya Jammeh.
“No one forces anyone to come here; everyone came here on their free will. They come here to give me the support so that we can together build this country together,” Barrow lashes out to his critics.
He strongly promises Gambians that his government is ready to supplement unprecedented development that no Gambian leader ever brought to the country, adding that talk less of Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara and Yahya Jammeh.
“The Gambian people, I want to assure you that I will bring development in this country that no other Gambian leader has ever brought into this country, which you cannot compare to Jawara or Yahya Jammeh,” President Barrow boldly stated.
He disclosed that it was The Gambian people who prayed for him to win the 2016 election and once again calling on them to do more prayers for his government to succeed.
“My wish is to work for this country until the end of my mandate and stay here as a private citizen after that and by that time I can leave behind a legacy that every Gambian can be proud of, so all I want from the people of Basse and all the Gambian is for all of you to rally behind me in our efforts to rebuild this country. When we build this country the benefit will not only go to Barrow Kunda or Mankamang Kunda but for the benefit of the people of The Gambia,” President Barrow coxed Gambians to support his plans of building a New Gambia.
