Mr. Jerreh Jassey of Sanyang, chief operator of the Alhamdulillah Petroleum Mineral Company Limited (APAM) complained of his April and May 2017 pending salaries with the Company, after the termination of his service.
APAM was closed by the Geological Department in May 2017.
He told The Voice newspaper at his residence in Sanyang village that since in the month of April 2017 shortly after his termination as employee of the company, he added that his April and May pending salary has never been paid to him by the company.
Mr. Jassey explained that after getting his termination letter from the company on the 12th of May 2017 which he said was written and signed on the 8th of May 2017 by the company’s Deputy Managing Director Mr Toni Ghattas.
He lamented that for more than two months he has been going to the Labour Department in order to claim for his pending April and May salaries but to no avail.
Mr Sambou K. Barrow, Deputy Commissioner of the Labour Department has told The Voice that many efforts have been taken by his department in making sure that the complainant received his pending salaries from the company.
According to him, a letter has been written to the Solicitor General and Legal Secretary of the Attonery General Chambers and Ministry of Justice and Augustus Prompt Chartered Account firm as receiver on the 13 of September 2017 mentioning the salary claims of 35 workers for the month of April and May 2017.
He added that the Department of Labour has worked very hard in informing the ongoing Janneh commission whom he said has frozen the assets and accounts of the company which is also looking into the financial dealings of the former President whiles enabling the complainant for not receiving their pending salaries from APAM.
Mr. Barrow further explained: “We even have to write to the Janneh commission so that they can defreeze the assets and accounts of the company in order to enable the pending April and May salaries to be paid to these workers. After one year now, we as a Department have been following the Janneh commission to allow the financial settlement of these workers”.
