Kandeh: Barrow’s projects will not Threaten GDC Support in URR

Mamma Kandeh, the leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), has emphatically stated that the development projects brought to Upper River Region; URR by President Barrow administration will not in any way affect his party’s support in the area.

“Barrow’s laying of foundations will not in any way derail my support in Basse. I was surprised when he mobilized many people from all over the country just for the laying of foundations

Wasting taxpayers’ money in the process. To me maybe he was not expecting it, which was why it was a big thing for him. But to me those are things which could have been done by the Vice President or  the Minister of Works,” he told  The Voice Newspaper recently.

He then said for him, President Barrow’s decision to gather people from all over the country was politically motivated, adding that the Gambian leader did all that to gather political points.

“I heard all what he said there and that was not part of the laying of the foundation.  For me,

he was politicking. But I want to remind him that he is elected to office to work and there is no

need for him to brag if he is doing what is expected of him…I believe Gambians are better than

that. No one can fool them now,” he added.

President Barrow, Kandeh added, is just doing what he is suppose to do and that’s all, adding

that the president laying of foundations is a move in the right direction, but to him President

Barrow should have laid more foundations.

“Since he came to power he should have laid many foundations. I heard him saying Macky Sall

Would be coming to attend the opening ceremony of the new bridge, but I do not know why Macky Sall should come to the Gambia for the opening of the bridge that is in the Gambia.

I don’t know what they have agreed on that brought about the construction of the bridge. I have no details about that,” he added.

He said the NAM who voted in support of the appropriation bill did it at their own discretion,

adding that summiting a bill of that nature should have taken place at least four months before

the end of the year.

“They said the appropriation bill was based on salary, but in real terms it was not really meant for salaries. I am not in support of it. They said they have subsidized fertilizer in the amount of D250 for every bag. I do not agree with that as well, because all these I believe should have been done properly. I have watched a video clip where the President is saying that he sent his minister of finance and he was able to secure $25M for fertilizer. Where that money and what is stopping the NAMs from investigating that,” he stressed.
