National Malaria Control Program has disclosed at a three days Sub national stakeholders and partners meeting with Senegalese counterpart on Malaria mass bed net campaign for 2019, that they will distribute 1.7 million Long Lasting Bed nets in Gambia to eliminate malaria.
The forum is under way in Farafenni general hospital in the North Bank Region and attended by border security forces from Amdalaye and Kerr Aurbe in North Bank region.
Modou Lamin Jaiteh Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare emphasized government commitment in strengthen health care system to improved health for all.
He also said such forum would help stakeholders and partners in fight against malaria in the two countries and eliminate the occurrence of malaria through adopting holistic approach and education on the use of treated bed net.
Jaiteh said the training is part of planning with all stakeholders and partners ahead of mass distribution of bed net in April.
Bala Kandeh National Program Manager at National Malaria Control Program expressed delight on the level of commitment displayed by partners and stakeholders to eliminate malaria in both countries.
He disclosed that elimination of malaria call for concert efforts of all, and therefore working with partners would contribute immensely on the elimination of malaria.
He revealed that 1.7million long lasting bed net will be distributed by April this year. Governor
North Bank region Governor Ebrima KS Dampha, commended stakeholders for the foresight and noted that it obviously complement cooperation between the Gambia and Senegal.
He assured of his office fullest support to the initiative of boosting health for all in the two countries.
Governor Dampha said President Adama Barrow and Macky Sall has significantly strengthened cooperation and said all hand should be on deck to support the gains.
Dr. Dodou Saine Head of Senegal Malaria Control Program said the move would continue in promoting the fight against malaria by 2030.
He said despite the gains registered in Senegal, there are needs of working with their Gambian counterparts to fight malaria at cross border
