TIN: GRA Warns ‘Corrupt’ People

Mr. Yankuba Darboe, Commissioner General of Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has strongly issued a stern warning to unscrupulous elements that demand money from people to facilitate to acquire Taxpayers Identification Number (TIN) from the Gambia Revenue Authority.

He said that the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is free of charge from any GRA office with effect from 1st January, 2019.

Mr. Darboe went on to expressed great concern over certain elements who always smuggle to demand hundred dalasi to facilitate the TIN number for people, which is now unacceptable and illegal as far as the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) is concerned.

According to him, it has always come to the notice of GRA Management that this certain undesirable elements still sit at a corner at the GRA office gates and request money from people who come to look for TIN number at GRA Offices.

“This is unacceptable, and anyone found wanting, necessary action will be taking against such culprit. I want to seize the opportunity to advise the general public to be careful not to deal with certain undesirable element who wants to do end meet over night on illegal means, he stressed.

He also urged the general public to reject and report anybody who engages in this activity in the sense that henceforth TIN Number is free of charge in any GRA office.

He then advised the people to endeavour to honor their tax obligation which is very crucial for the national development.

Darboe commended the GRA Management and staff for their commitment and dedication to national development and for ensuring that GRA has registered unprecedented success on performance in 2018 while assuring that it will replica in 2019.

“We only need the cooperation of the taxpayers to respect the revenue Laws and pay their taxes on time,” he concluded.
