Gambia, Senegal local authorities lauded Trans Gambia Bridge Opening

The regional authorities of North Bank Region and their counterpart in the administration of Nioro in Senegal have committed themselves in fostering mutual unity between Gambia and Senegal to enhance trade and social cohesion.

The authorities renewed their commitment ahead of the grand inauguration of Trans Gambia Bridge at a meeting held at Farafenni General Hospital conference hall in the north bank region. The meeting was attended by transporters, business communities, security, politicians, district authorities in both countries, chiefs and the community of Farafenni.

Governor Ebrima KS Dampha, thanks the peoples of the two countries for their steadfastness and willingness of complementing the efforts of President Adama Barrow and Macky Sall of Senegal in strengthen bilateral relationship.

He said the meeting aim to brief stakeholders on how to harmonize and strengthen coordination on security and movement of people far and wide towards a successful inauguration.

Monsieur Malao Sowe legislator for Nioro and Pap Ndure President of transport union in Kaloack expressed satisfaction noted that the bridge would enhance cooperation and trade in two countries. He noted as legislators there primary roles are to promote regional integration, peace and security to boost livelihood development.

He reiterated the need for people to respect the orders by security forces at all times to ensure a peaceful inauguration.

Momodou Sowe Regional Police Commissioner and Amadou BOJANG Commanding officer at 2nd  Infantry Battalion in Farafenni calls on transporters, drivers and general population  to be law abiding and respect the instruction given security forces during inauguration and also report any things to the nearest security outfits.

He noted the pride on mutual cooperation and coordination among security forces in Gambia and Senegal. He uses the moment to call on the general population to cooperate with security forces to ensure a successful inauguration of the bridge.

Alh. Sambujang Jagne, community leader of Farafenni, Sainey Sabally Deputy Regional UDP chairman and chief Ebrima Ansu Tamba Jammeh all assured of their support and noted that the bridge would boost cross border trade and economy development.

Malamin IL Bojang, chairman of Kerewan Area Council thanks Senegal for providing sanctuary to Gambian during impasse and sworn in President Barrow in Dakar.

Hon. Dembo Camara, National Assembly Member for Upper Badibou reiterated that the opening of the bridge would strengthen bilateral relationship between the two states and promote business and by extension enhance socio economic development of the people.
