Brikama Area Council (BAC) has taking a giant step in signing and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GAM-SOLAR Energy and Engineering Company Limited yesterday at Brikama Area Council.
The MOU was seeks to address the issues of electricity and water within the West Coast Region as GAM-Solar Energy is the sole provider of water and electricity.
The objective of signing this MOU was to join forces in a public Private Partnership as advocates in the National Development Plan of The Gambia, whereby the two entities will be working together to create social- economic solutions through the development of economic growth centre through the application of solar energy as a resource abundantly available for the country and its people in the areas of community water pumping, irrigation projects to increase food production, innovative solar cookers reducing deforestation, while at the same time mitigating the effects of climate change.
The partnership between the Council and GAM-SOLAR is intended to create a new business model and a win-win situation , creating a green economy in The Gambia , while mitigating emissions affecting climate change, helping the population by improving access to clean water and reducing energy poverty by using solar energy.
“This is the second company that the Management of the council signed MOU recently which is all gear toward complimenting the council effort in providing the much needed services to their electorates within the communities.
Mam Sait Jallow, Chief Executive Officer of BAC explained that they deem it prudent to partner with viable companies that will help the council to ease some of the demand of the community.
He described this MOU as a worthy course and welcome development as the MOU aims at helping the council in addressing the concerns of the communities.
He said the council cannot do it alone, therefore, partnering with GAM-SOLAR Company that have a very good track record in this country in providing water and electricity is something that the council appreciate.
According to him, with commitment, dedication, team work, surely these MOU will be implemented to the letter.
“We are the council acknowledge the effort of GAM-SOLAR company in it quest to address the issues of water supply and electricity in this country, particularly in the urban areas,” he said.
He added that the council will continue to look for more genuine partners who will compliment their effort in addressing the local communities that they serve in our society.
He commended both parties for ensuring that this MOU is signed at the right time.
Sherifo Sonko, chairman of the Brikama Area Council, noted that the signing of the MOU with GAM-Solar Company in a bid to provide effective and efficient water supply and electricity at the doorstep of their electorates .
He explained that they promise their electorates during the campaign to provide them the much needed services, and partnering with GAM-SOLAR Company to help the council to response to those demand is a welcome development. He outlines council commitment in partnering with companies that aim to address their welfare of their electorates.
Sonko commended the Management of GAM-SOLAR Energy and his staff for ensuring that this MOU become into reality, while assuring GAM-SOLAR energy company the council’s commitment in implementing the MOU.
