A team of former British MPs including a Councilor from the Scottish National Party earlier today paid courtesy call on the Constitutional Review Commission at its Secretariat at the Futurelec Building in Kotu.
The team was led to CRC by Mr. Madi Jobarteh, Country Director of Westminister Foundation for Democracy and the delegation comprises Anne Mclaugwin, former member of British and Scottish Parliament and Mr Graham Campbell, Councilor of Glasgow City Council and member of Scottish National Party.
The Chairman of Constitutional Review Commission, Justice Cherno Jallow received the visiting officials while explaining the work and mandate of the CRC.
The objective of the visit, according to Madi Jobarteh is to generate conversations with political parties and other key stakeholders on inclusive and accountable on politics and democracy with a view to identifying challenges, best practices and needs so as to enable Westminister Foundation for Democracy to better support the strengthening of political parties and other stakeholders and enhancing the overall democratization process in the Gambia.
During discussions, Justice Jallow explained to the visiting officials some ongoing works at the commission including the ongoing public consultations and steps taken to include everyone in the review process.
“We welcome you to CRC and look forward to possible partnerships,” Justice Jallow said, while reminding the team that CRC is an independent body that is working hard to draft a constitution that will stand the test of time.
