The Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Japan has revealed plans by his government to build a first class health facility in Brikama, through bilateral cooperation agreement between The Gambia and Japan.
Mr. Kenji Yamada was in Banjul as a special envoy of the Japanese President to His Excellency, President Adama Barrow. He was accompanied to the State House by Gambian Foreign Minister, Momodou Tangara.
The delegation held closed door talks with President Barrow on matters of multilateral and bilateral cooperation, aimed at strengthening partnership between the two governments.
President Barrow in receiving the delegation expressed delight with Japanese support, particularly in the areas of agriculture and fisheries.
He re-echoed the fact that his mandate as President is a social contract he had with Gambians when he was voted into office. His pre-occupation during this period is to work hard to fulfill promises he made to the voters despite challenges his government is confronted with.
He urged for more Japanese investment in The Gambia as the right environment is already created by his government to yield a win-win situation for both investors and the country.
The Japanese diplomat, Kenji YAMADA on his part said Japan places high premium on Gambia’s new found democracy, freedom, and rule of law that was ushered in with the leadership of President Adama Barrow. It is the main reason why Japan accredited a new Ambassador to the Gambia in 2018.
Japan already providing $2.2million food aid to The Gambia, along with other support in higher education through scholarships to Gambian students. Now they want to expand to cover infrastructural development and health support.
