ST Da Gambian Dream, also called Brikama Boyo or ST Singhateh, Gambian artiste for the third time in his career, has dominated the Wah Sa Halat Awards on 26th January, 2019.
He left the 2019 ceremony, which took place at the Kairaba Beach Hotel, with three awards: Rap/hip-hop artist of the Year, Artist of the Year and Event of the Year (the launching ceremony of Saluto, his last album). Other winners on the night include Jizzle, Royal Messenjah and Big Sey.
Jizzle also won three awards, his song with Hussein, ‘Jalika’ taking the Collaboration of the Year and the Song of the Year categories. His third win came in the People’s Choice Award category. This last category was voted for by the Gambian public.
The ceremony’s Lifetime Achievement Award went to the head of the Musicians Union of the Gambia, Jaliba Kuyateh. The kora player was referred to as “a legend, an icon [and] a musician worthy of celebration”. The music video for ‘Mosana’ by the Nobles was awarded the Music Video of the Year award.
Chief Executive of Wa Sa Halat, Sally Njie-Colley, congratulated both nominees and winners, saying, “We are all winners. This is meant to celebrate, recognize and motivate our artists to work hard for glory”.
