The National Youth Council (NYC) in collaboration with the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) has provided some working materials to NYC’s regional programme officers at the Central River Region, North Bank Region and Lower River Region on 11 February, 2019 at NYC’s office in Kanifing.
The materials to the NYC’ regional programme officers who double as YEP focal persons includes three DT Motor bikes, four Mobile phones, four Internet Routers and four laptops.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Lamin Darboe, executive director for NYC said the materials aimed at providing enabling environment for the regional officers to execute their functions to expectation on the YEP projects as well as other developmental projects that are offered to youth in the rural area.
“We [NYC] hope that if this strategy of getting opportunities to the rural communities works then we will be able to expand the project to other parts of the country,” he said.
He added that NYC has realized that times opportunities are even available to young people but those at the remote communities find difficult to benefit from such opportunities.
He described the materials as way of strengthening NYC’s regional networks and efforts to ensure they contribute in the implementation of the national development plan through the Ministry of Youth and Sports strategy plans.
“This is also a fulfillment of the commitment that we made during the National Youth Conference and Festival (NaYConF) that we will be able to get development projects and employment opportunities for the young people across the country,” pointed out.
He urged government and development partners to continue their support to youth as well as NYC to ensure job opportunities are provided, calling on government and development partners should also communicate with youth on policies and programmes that will help in creating job opportunities in the country.
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the regional officer, Mustapha Manneh, NYC regional programme officer for LRR commended NYC and YEP for the valuable materials, saying the equipment will enable them to render their service effectively.
