Famara Fofana, head of Communication Child Fund The Gambia has said that peace is the beauty of life, stressing that no meaningful development cannot take place without peace.
Fofana was speaking as a guest speaker during a daylong peace education symposium organised by Family Gambia Peace Education Foundation at Sinchu Baliya Lower/ Upper Basic School recently.
He further said that no effective learning takes place when the school environment is not conducive, so peace starts from teachers.
“This worthy undertaken of peace education at schools level should be embrace, as it inculcate discipline in the minds of the students,” he said.
He urged students to learn and be tolerant to each other’s in schools and homes by respecting the differences at all times.
He further advised students to desist from hate, and spread positivity to move the world to another level.
Ida LB Ceesay, Family Gambia Teacher representative at Sinchu Baliya Lower/ Upper Basic School explained that peace education program started as a pilot last year and students are benefiting a lot from the program.
She commended ministry of Basic and Secondary Education for allowing Family Gambia to inculcate peace in the minds of the students.
Ousman Fofana, Peace and Humanitarian Supervisor Family Gambia explained that Family Gambia is a sister NGO of Family Gambia Liberia and Sierra Leone and were established in 2009 in collaboration with Peace Education Foundation Miami Florida US to introduced peace education to schools.
He added that they also works with communities by helping children and their parent to learn the attitude and skills of peace by means of its peace leaflets, peace workshop, and peace lectures to schools.
According to him, they presented peace education syllabus to ministry of Basic and Secondary education hoping that one peace education will be integrated into the Gambian school system.
