Suba Kunda Bookshop and publishing center has been inaugurated over the weekend at Kotu, Kanifing Municipality (KM) with the Motto: “We encourage people to read books in pursuit of Personal Development”.
The bookshop was name after Sutukung and Barrow Kunda villages. Yaya Sillah, proprietor of the Bookshop said: “I am grateful to my own family members and friends for seeing them here to witness this historic event with me which will go a long way in cementing our cordial relationship as our forefathers used to be.”
He added: “I named these Bookshop and Publishing Center after these two settlement scholars in order for me to get their blessing because of what they had done in their life time when it comes to the propagation of Islam within the sub-region.”
According to him, part of his plans is to organize conference one’s in a month at American Corner which will discuss iscipline, important of social cohesion, constructive debate concerning mass immigration and how to improve self-esteem”.
Mr. Sillah said his Publishing Center will give support to Gambians writers if they are to publish their Books while stating that it is in their future plans also to distribute Books author by The Gambian writers worldwide.
The acting director general NCAC, Hasoum Ceesay described Yaya Ceesay as a producer of knowledge in the country thus his contribution to Gambia’s development is noticed by all Gambians.
Ceesay highlighted the main achievements registered by the forefathers of the Jahanka community when it comes to the promoting and propagating of Islam in the sub-region.
Momodou Sabally said the country lacks proper Library and Publishing institutions while expressing his thanks to Yaya Ceesay for coming up with such a laudable initiative for Gambians and non-Gambians alike.
