The residents of Jambur village in the Kombo South District of the West Coast Region have bitterly complained over the poor road condition linking them to Farato while calling on the government to intervene so as to mitigate the challenges affecting the transportation of their goods and services.
Speaking to The Voice in an exclusive interview on recently, Habibu Jawo, a commercial driver expressed worry over the condition of the road, saying that the long distant road is in a bad situation affects the transportation of goods and service between the two communities.
He added that dust is disturbing them whenever they are travelling on the road due to its bad condition, adding that all parts of the road has ravine making travel very difficult for both passengers as well as drivers.
“Lots of accident had happened on the road owing to the circumstances of the road. He is suffering from chest infection because of the dust that erupts when travelling on the road.” Jawo also a resident of Jambur complained bitterly to this report.
He added that: “He depends on driving to sustain his family on daily basis. However, since the area councilor cannot construct the road for the residents, they are calling on the government or benevolent NGOs to come to their aid to build the road.”
Lamin Keita also a resident of Jambur told this medium that the road is the greatest challenge that the people of the two communities are facing presently, adding that the commercial drivers increase the fares anyhow they wish due to the condition of the road.
“During the dry season dust and ravine will disturb the people. In fact in rainy season we have to walk from Jambur to Farato to board commercial cars so as to reach to our working place on time,” he noted.
Wuye Sanyang, also a commercial driver revealed that last year the government vowed to construct the road to ensure smooth transportation of goods and services between the two communities. But yet the government did not fulfill the promise.
Mr. Sanyang further unveiled that shortly before the councillorship election, the councilor of the ward promised that when he is empowered he will construct the road.
He added that: “Now even when he (the councilor) will pass by the people but he will not greet them rather than talking about the construction of the road”.
