Mama Jammeh, Coordinator of Mama Tamba Youth Empowerment Association has reiterated the commitment of the association on the restoration of Baobolong Wetland in Illiasa and build capacity of 8 communities along the wetland agro forestry and sound environmental protection.
Jammeh was speaking recently in Illiasa during the first Project Steering Committee to map strategies on the implementation of UNDP Small grant one year Global Environment Project dubbed Youth Empowerment and Environmental Management Project.
The project is expected to transform Baobolong wetland by planting salt tolerance trees, mangrove to provide breeding for seafood and provide sanctuary for wildlife.
The Coordinator noted that the Project Steering Committee would help to provide technical and professional skills to Mama Tamba Youth Empowerment Association to the restoration of degrading wetland and improve livelihood development for the communities.
The project would train farmers and youths on agro forestry, bee keeping, soil management, poultry production, entrepreneurship development, compost making and value addition through processing and preservation technique.
The coordinator said the project would raise over 7000 seedling of difference tree species.
Lamin Jammeh, chairman of Mama Tamba Youth Empowerment Association thanked the Project Steering Committee for their invaluable support to the implementation of Youth Empowerment and Environmental Management Project to help transform the lives of communities through adoption sound innovative ideas to improving people’s livelihood.
He noted that there is need for farmers to adopt the use of organic farming to create market outlet for farm produce.
