Hon. Sedia Jatta, Vice chairman of the National Assembly Select Committee on Financial and Public Account Committee (FPAC) has said that taxation alone will not develop this country because the job market is very narrow in this country.
“So if we want to develop this country through tax payers, it will be very difficult to build this nation. The government has employed more people than any other sectors in the Gambia but yet still the country employment sector is in zero. Jatta, a member of Wuli West said that during the appearance of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) before the FPAC of the National Assembly on yesterday.
He explained that the Gambia is a tax based economic country, “if we are to build our economic as a nation we should look at the Southern countries and compare with them in other to have a strong economic”
He added that if the GRA want to build the country economic from the tax payers there is no way we can build this country.
Jatta cited Rwanda as an example in which Gambia can take lesson from because after the Rwanda’s civil war, they have been able to rebuild their country.
“Rwanda has put stringent measures against corruption and also put in place a low taxation system. Today is one of the countries with booming economic in Africa,” he said.
