By Adama Makasuba

Abdoulie J Darboe, former Clerk at training school of the Gambia National Army and a victim of November 11, 1994 has said that he and LF Jammeh were ambushed by members of the junta and been arrested on false accusation of coup attempt.

Darboe told the commission while testifying at the ongoing TRRC on Tuesday. He explained that he and LF Jammeh boarded a vehicle to Yundum barracks to convene a meeting with the junta members and as they arrived at the Agriculture building the soldiers led by Edward Singhateh started shooting at them.

He said LF Jammeh stopped the vehicle and ran away but he was caught and tortured mercilessly by Edward and his boys with kicks, gun butts and “Edward Singhateh personally held my finger and started slapping me with his beignet.”

He added that after his and others arrest, Edward held a grenade bomb and attempted to kill them with it but Sanna Sabally ordered him (Edward) not to do it but that they will be killed one by one.

“We were stripped off naked and Sanna said 1, 2, 3 fire and then the soldiers would fire at us and at the spot three (3) people died and others ran away. The three that died included two Gendarme officers and a soldier called Nyancho. Alhagie Kanyi shot Basiru Barrow and Abdoulie Dot Faal in the forehead,” he said.

Meanwhile, he also explained his condition when he was detained at the Mile 2 prison, adding that the condition there was horrible. “Mile 2 is horrible I will not even allow my enemy to go there. We used to have toilet and eat in the same cell we were detained. The food there was unhealthy for consumption. My cell was directly opposite the main toilet,” he added.
