Gambia, Mauritania sign MOUs on fisheries, bilateral cooperation

Gambia and Islamic Republic of Mauritania has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) in the areas of fisheries and bilateral cooperation following bilateral talks between President Adama Barrow and President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz.

The Gambian leader  is in Nouakchott for two-day official visit to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the MOU was signed on behalf of Gambia by Minister of Fisheries and Water Resources, James Gomez and his Mauritanian counterpart, a statement receive by PANA from  the presidency media team said today Thursday.

The Understanding on bilateral cooperation was signed by the foreign affairs ministers and Gambia was represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians abroad, Dr. Momodou Tangara.

According to the statement the MOUs will promote bilateral cooperation, understanding, and investment in the area of maritime investment and fishing as well as encourage regular consultations on global issues of concern to both countries in the spirit of consolidating African integration and common positions.

The objectives of the fishing agreement are to promote trade, boost investment, and encourage the exchange of technical knowhow and best practices in maritime and fisheries sectors of both countries.

The statement also said earlier, President Barrow held a private meeting with President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz on Wednesday while the Gambian leader also held meeting with Gambian community in Mauritania.
