Mambanyick Nije, the Public Relation Officer cum Secretary for Information and Propaganda of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) has expressed confident of his party winning the next Gambia’s presidential election.
“Considering the constitution that we envision, we belief that the issue of second round voting will be embedded in the constitution. If this happens GDC is confident that even it did not score more than 50+ 1 in the first round. Then it will come up with first position in the first round,” he told The Voice in an exclusive interview recently.
He added: “If there is second round we will negotiate with other political parties to join us so as to take the reign of the country.”
However, Njie described GDC as the biggest and strongest political party across the country and added that his party had been preparing for the forthcoming presidential election, noting that they had already organized series of political rallies and launched lots of projects which he means shows that GDC is prepared for the impending presidential election.
He further said that GDC had been very active in addressing Gambians needs, adding his party had initiated many developmental projects in the country ranging from drilling of boreholes, fencing of cemeteries, construction of markets and among others.
PRO Njie told this medium that some people see politics as source of income for them but noting it should be seen as a mission to utilize public resources to address the wishes and aspirations of this populace.
“GDC will continue to contribute in nation building regardless of whether they are voted into office or not. Once a political party is registered it becomes a national institution because no one can register a political party without getting nomination cards from the electorate,” he noted.
He said that when his party raises funds on behalf of the public regardless of whether they are the ruling party or not they will use part of the funds to address the need of the masses, adding GDC will continue to hold government accountable in term of policy initiations and project implementation to ensure the public’s interest is attained.
He enjoined his militants to conduct their politics respectfully, saying that politic is not about character assassination or physical fight but to put ideas together so as to accomplish the nation’s sustainable development goals.
“The fundamental principle is to understand that we [political leaders] are not enemies, we have different views as to how this country should be governed but that does not make us enemies. In doing so, we need to send a message of peace and unity to the electorate to make a choice,” he said.
He urged all GDC militants to maintain peace and avoid unwholesome language while appealed all Gambians to avoid castigating one another in the social media.
