MRC Holland Foundation Creates New Face For Gambia College

Eighteen new classrooms have been inaugurated at the Gambia College Brikama Campus through the support of MRC Holland on 2nd March 2019. The event gathered the top brass of the government officials, NGO’S, community members and the students.

Speaking at the occasion the Minister of Higher Education Research Science and Technology, Honourable Alieu Badara Joof, applauded the MRC Holland foundation for their unflinching support on education in the Gambia.

He said these classrooms will decongest the overcrowded classes in the college. “Quality education is as important as quality teachers” Said the minister. He reaffirmed the commitment of his Ministry and the Government to make Gambia College the citadel of learning.

Bai Lamin Jobe, Minister of works construction, also made a similar statement. He applauded the donors for the support.

He highlighted on the move of the new government despite the inherited devastated institutions and the Gambia been isolated from global partners in development.

Prof Faqir Muhammad Anjum, The vice councillor of the University of the Gambia, underscore the importance of teacher education to attain quality education. He thanked the donors for the timely intervention.

Abubacarr Jallow, Principal of the Gambia College, hailed the MRC Holland for their unflinching support to the Gambia College.

He said the college has been struggling with inadequate space for teaching An learning. “Thanks to MRC Holland for providing us eighteen new classrooms including toilets, a borehole plus four Science laboratories that are currently under construction, ” he remarked.

Henrietta Sonko the country coordinator of MRC Holland said her foundation is committed to support the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education with school infrastructure.

She said supporting the college will contribute immensely on quality education and help mitigate the shortage of teachers. Madam Sonko reaffirmed the commitment of MRC Holland Foundation to the Gambia College.

She finally challenged the students and staff of the Gambia College to make best use of the facilities.
