National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) have more than capacity to supply their existing customers despite the company challenges due to lacked of corresponding investments in transmission and distribution which is included in current project.
Baba Fatajo managing director NAWEC assured customer that his company will modernize the system to make sure the service is available to the public as they have been complaining about the tariffs because of the mode of the generators, noting that the company will reduce it operating cost and the credit.
He told journalists on Monday, that the OMVG will provide cheaper electricity beyond the borders and also the possibility to import cheaper electricity in the sub-region with lots of potential energy within the sub- region.
According to him, with the political commitment and government support to prioritise the sector to improve service this can be achieved government intervention.
Lamin Darboe, the chief of Kombo South said the objective of government is to provide electricity to the entire community across the country, adding that to have solar electricity in your community is another step of the government to ensure that their promised has been kept.
He also there was a challenges over the land for the project, but following public consultation they reached on terms and conditions to compensates land owners and this should be done by government in near future.
Bakary Sanyang, Governor of West Coast Region noted that his region is a very large settlement and the demand for electricity is very high but with the implementation of this project this will be reduce .
He pointed out that this project will be the selling point of the region and it will attract investors because electricity is the biggest challenges investors have in West Coast.
