The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) tournament in Latrikunda Sabiji district is due to have its final between Lalal B against Herr Bi on Sunday 10 March 219, Ebrima Nyang, organizer for the tournament confirm to The Voice on Monday, saying all and sundry are invited at the remarkable day at Serekunda East Mini Stadium.
Mr. Nyang, former Latrikunda Sabiji’s parliamentarian candidate under the GDC ticket said the tournament aimed fostering unity and understanding among the youth of Latrikunda Sabiji to ensure sustainable development in the district since youth are the drivers of development in every given nation.
“I contested in the past parliamentary election, I did not win but I deem it necessary to contribute towards the success of my people. That’s why I came up this initiative and I also realized that during the past parliamentary election there was a problem among the youth; therefore, I believe this tournament is a mechanism to unify them,” he said.
According to him, the tournament has played a pivotal role in unifying the young people of the area since after the parliamentarian election, adding that cross-section of people had been witnessing the football games since the tournament commenced but no violence was experienced during the competition.
“The winner will receive D10, 000 while the runner will receive D5000; however, the game was officiated by Gambia Football Federation (GFF) and every game I was given them D1400 including the Red Cross personnel who used to be on the ground for the welfare of the players,” he said.
He added: “I spent much money on the tournament but yet many people will be surprisingly awarded with packages during the final.”
Conversely, he said every citizen of this great country have the social responsibility to contribute immensely in the development of the West African tiny nation one way or the other.
He pointed out that his doors are open for any person who want to assist him on any meant for the success of the forthcoming remarkable event.
The young politician called on all and sundry who want to attend the final to maintain peace and discipline to ensure the success of the game, so that other patriotic Gambians will emulate his good work to come up with other initiatives.
Nyang expressed gratitude to the all the players who participate in the tournament for their efforts, noting that the players had exercised maximum moral behavior in the course of the tournament.
