Sacked nominated member of National Assembly, Ya Kumba Jaiteh has vented her anger at the Speaker Mariama Denton and her Clerk Momodou Ceesay over her sacking by President Adama Barrow as “quite disappointing”.
Her nomination was recently revoked by the Gambian leader and replaced by Foday Gassama on Monday, 4th March 2019
Jaiteh has challenged her revocation as nominated member at the Supreme Court and hearing is expected on the matter today.
She told Kerr Fatou in an interview that Speaker Denton and Clerk Ceesay should have been the first people to take her case to court since they are the administrators of the lawmaking body.
She explained that: “The role of the Speaker and the Clerk are quite disappointing because I think it is the role of the Speaker and the Clerk to ensure that if there is a dispute, before I even go to court, the fact that I am insisting that I am still a National Assembly member and have not vacated my seat, they are the ones who should have taken this matter to court to seek clarification because they are the administrators of the Assembly,”.
Jaiteh, also an executive member of United Democratic Party added that the fact that the Speaker and the Clerk seem to be implementing an executive decision is quite and very disappointing.
Jaiteh said her sacking was interference by the executive into the work of the National Assembly.
