National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS) graduated 101 returnee migrants that underwent various skills enhancement training as part of their reintegration process for sustainable livelihood.
The project is funded by European Union Office in The Gambia through International Organization for Migration (IOM). They are all provided with startup kits to start their operations.
The graduates were trained on tailoring, carpentering, construction, CCTV and satellite installation, welding and auto mechanic, electrical, electronic, plumbing and panting and decoration.
Lamin Camara, Deputy Permanent Secretary, says: “Government of The #Gambia through Ministry of Youth and Sports will continue to work with development partners in supporting reintegration of migrants that have voluntarily returned home.”
He added: “The government is committed to enhancing youth development in The #Gambia. We have a moral duty & responsibility to care about our young people & address their issues.”
Emmanuel Mendy, Executive Director, NYSS said the project came as a result of numerous consultations between IOM and NYSS culminating to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of Enhancing Technical and Vocational Skills of Returnee Migrants for a Sustainable Livelihood Project.
“The aim of the project is to support returnees sharpen their skills after which they will be provided with start-up kits for self –employment,” he said.
