Fulbe Africa Condemns the Killing of Over 130 Fulani Herdsmen

Press Release

Fulbe Africa is deeply saddened by the outrageous and senseless killings of our brothers and sisters in the Central Mali Region of Mopti. We received the news of the killings of more than 130 Fulas including women and children with utter shock and disbelief in the early hours of Sunday.

The atrocious act of terrorism allegedly committed by members of the Dogon group undoubtedly constitute serious crimes of concern and threaten the peace, security and well-being of the region. Nothing on earth justifies the killings of human beings regardless of color, race, ethnicity, gender or nationality.

We hereby call on the Government of Mali to ensure a speedy and thorough independent investigations into the massacre of these innocent people. We equally call on the ECOWAS, African Union, the UN Security Council (UN), and all other organizations concerned about respect of life and human dignity to take the necessary actions to bring the perpetrators to book.

These organizations should pressurize the Malian government to put a stop to the senseless killings of innocent people, guaranty the lives and properties of the Fulani herdsmen and other people in Mali.

We wish to appreciate the condemnation of the attacks by some leaders, however, we call on all world leaders to condemn this act of cruelty and also ensure that appropriate measures are put in place in protecting the lives and properties of innocent people in Mali and other parts of the region.

While thanking the ICC and UN for their quick reaction to the incident by denouncing the attacks, it is our fervent hope that these organisations will ensure that the Mali government fully cooperates in the investigations.

As we mourn the death of these innocent victims, we present our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims, as well as to the people of Mali.
