It was a dream comes through for the people of Labakoreh village in West Coast Region as the Hope Gambia provided a water borehole runs with fitted solar power, two tanks 4000 liters capacity, and four standing taps located in different areas across the community.
Labakoreh is a village of 4,000 inhabitants without electricity, hospital and water pipe borne water until the intervention of the Hope Gambia, a registered local charity based in The Gambia. The water borehole was sponsored by the One World Group-UK.
During the inauguration on Saturday, Baba Galleh Jallow of Hope Gambia thanked One World Group, UK for sponsoring the borehole water project which the the inhabitants of Labakoreh has been yearning for a very long time. He as well commended their effort for unanimously agreed the cost of the project despite beyond the ceiling grant of their organization.
He noted that the four taps is not enough for the community but quickly add that it was better than before that they have to travel some kilometers to get drinkable water.
As he called for more assistance for donors to enable them provide solve and provide some of the village’s needs he advised the villagers to safeguard the borehole and its facilities and as well conserve, manage and use the water judiciously. He encouraged them to take ownership of it especially that it is free of charge as against NAWEC use and pay service.
Baba Galleh Jallow again applauded One World Group and still begged for their further assistance for the village.
The Alkalo, VDC chairman, Councilor and people of Labakoreh village in turn thanked Hope Gambia and One World Group for the great intervention. And they however appealed to other donors to come to their aid so that they can add and extend more taps various part of the community.
