Adjournment Debate: NAMS Laments on Issues Affecting Gambians

National Assembly Members (NAMs) yesterday debated on issues affecting the development of The Gambia during adjournment debate at the National Assembly chambers in Banjul.

The adjournment debate motion was tabled by the Majority Leader and member for Kombo South Kebba K. Barrow.

Hon. Matarr Jeng, National Assembly Member for Lower Niumi, said that Essau Health Centre with  164 staff member and provide  health services to the people of lower Niumi and the health centre, there is no qualify doctors and Nurses.

Jeng urged the newly appointed minister to   tour   Essau health centre to get first hands information about the condition and facility.

Hon. Bakary Camara, member for Kiang Central also said the people Kiang, rights were denied by the former government after failing to provide water and electricity to those people.

He further urged government to take measure to address land disputes, stressing that this is one of the biggest challenges facing Gambians   across the country.

Camara, also noted that   House select committee on health visited Bansang hospital last month and realized lot of challenges such as allowances and working condition for the doctors and nurses.

He described the working in the hospital unfavorable for someone to be in that condition as a health personal.

Hon. Omar Ceesay, member for Niamina East said the government has the responsibility to provide the Ambulance to each and every village in the Gambia.

He said that youth empowerment should be the first priority of the government noting that   young people are facing challenges in the country.

“We all know that if young people are giving the opportunity they will not leave their country for Europe to look for green and pasture,” he added.
